INTRODUCTION:

The purpose of this page is to provide Scriptural evidence of the Messiah in the Old Testament (TeNaKh).

The Messiah said, "For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me." (John 5:46)  Additionally, it is written in the book of Luke, "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself." (Luke 24:27)

Using this as my guide, I started collecting verses from the Old Testament that referred to the Messiah.

SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:

7 "And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur."  (KJV)

8 "And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai."  (KJV)

9 "And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands."  (KJV)

10 "And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude."  (KJV)

11 "And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction."  (KJV)

12 "And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren."  (KJV)

13 "And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?"  (KJV)

11 "And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I."  (KJV)

12 "And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me."  (KJV)

The ownership of this sentence only makes sense if the angel is YHWH!  That would mean this is the Messiah speaking.

13 "And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son."  (KJV)

14 "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen."  (KJV)

15 "And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,"  (KJV)

16 "And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:"  (KJV)

17 "That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;"  (KJV)

18 "And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice."  (KJV)

11 "And the angel of God spake unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I."  (KJV)

THE angel of YHWH.

12 "And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled: for I have seen all that Laban doeth unto thee."  (KJV)

13 "I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the land of thy kindred."  (KJV)

2 "And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed."  (KJV)

20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared."  (KJV)

18 "I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him."  (KJV)

19 "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him."  (KJV)

Judges 2:1-4

angel of YHWH

1 "And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you."  (KJV)

Translation Difference

"And the Messenger of YHWH came up from Gilgal to Bokim, and said, "I led you up from Mitsrayim and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers, and I said, 'I do not break My covenant with you,"  (The ISR Scriptures)

"And the Malach-YHWH 711  came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Mitzrayim, and have brought you to the land that I swore to your ahvot; and I said, I will never break My brit with you."  (The Restoration Scriptures)

711  - The same Guardian-Metatron that has YHWH's Name speaking in the first person is no doubt Yahshua.

The KJV "An angel of the LORD..." seems to be a mistranslation.  Depending on one's belief, either 'God the Father' or 'God the Son' brought the children of Israel up out of the land of Egypt/Mitsarim.  Since this verse mentions an angel and not God Almighty, it MUST be referring to 'God the Son' or "THE angel of the LORD...".

2 "And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?"  (KJV)

3 "Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you."  (KJV)

4 "And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept."  (KJV)

2 Samuel 24:16

angel
YHWH
angel of YHWH

16 "And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite."  (KJV)

3 "But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?"  (KJV)

The angel of YHWH

4 "Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed."  (KJV)

15 "And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king."  (KJV)

The angel of YHWH

Isaiah 5:24

Holy One of Israel

24 "Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel."  (KJV)

This chapter also shows were the Hebrews were in apostasy.

Isaiah 45:11

Holy One of Israel

11 "Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me."  (KJV)

This verse seems to be referring to the Messiah.  It also seems to be saying that the Holy One of Israel was made by God Almighty.

Isaiah 54:5

Isaiah 47:4

our redeemer
YHWH of hosts
our redeemer

4 "As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel."  (KJV)

TRANSLATION DIFFERENCE:

"4 Our Redeemer, YHWH of hosts is His Name, the Set-apart One of Yisra'ĕl."  (The ISR Scriptures)

"As for our Redeemer, YHWH tzevaoth is His Name, the Kadosh-One of Yisrael."  (The Restoration Scriptures)

"Our Redeemer, YHWH of hosts is His name, The Holy One of Yisrael."  (Interlinear Isaiah)

This entire chapter seems to be referring to the Messiah.

Isaiah 54:5

Holy One of Israel

5 "For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called."  (KJV)

Translation Difference

"For your Maker is your husband, YHWH of hosts is His Name, and the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl is your Redeemer.  He is called the Elohim of all the earth."  (The ISR Scriptures)

"'For your Maker is your Husbands; 1748  YHWH tzevaoth is His Name; and your Redeemers 1749  the Kadosh-One of Yisrael; The Elohim of the whole earth shall He be called.  1750 '  (The Restoration Scriptures)

1748   Hebrew: ki baalecha asechah, or “because your Husbands are your Maker.”  We see the plurality of one again in the term “husbands.” Also the Maker is YHWH, and His Redeemer, which in the Hebrew is ve goalecha, or literally “your Redeemers.”  We see the Father and Son in this verse as one in both cases.
1749   Goalecha, or literally “your Redeemers.”
1750   YHWH through Yahshua has taken Efrayim back to be with Judah.

This verse seems to be referring to the Messiah as the husband of his people.  This could mean husband as in spouse or husband as in "animal husbandry".

This verse claims that our maker's name is YHWH of hosts, the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl, and the Elohim of all the earth.  It also states that this entity is our redeemer.

This verse seems to be saying that our redeemer (the Messiah?) is divine.

Isaiah 45:11

7 "Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,"  (KJV)

Hebrews 10:7

27 "And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself."  (KJV)

YAHUSHUA showed them in the TeNaKh all the references to HIM.

44 "And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. "  (KJV)

The TeNaKh was written about YAHUSHUA.

By making this statement, the Messiah was making it clear that ALL the Old Testament had been written about HIM.  The Scripture had not been canonized yet so the Messiah was making it clear what scrolls were to be included.

37 "And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape."  (KJV)

This would mean that the 'burning bush' was YAHUSHUA.

39 "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. "  (KJV)

7 "Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God."  (KJV)

Psalm 40:7

1 "Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;"  (KJV)

2 "And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;"  (KJV)

3 "And did all eat the same spiritual meat;"  (KJV)

4 "And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ."  (KJV)

ANGEL OF YHWH:

1 "And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you."  (KJV)

See Chapter Notes:

16 "And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite."  (KJV)

HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL:

Isaiah 41:14

YHWH
redeemer

14 "Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel."  (KJV)

14"Fear not, you worm Yaakov, and you men of Yisrael; I will help you, says YHWH, and Your Redeemer, the Kadosh-One of Yisrael. 1476"  (The Restoration Scriptures)

YHWH

TRANSLATION DIFFERENCE:

"6 "Thus said HWHY, Sovereign of Yisra'ĕl, and his Redeemer, YHWH of hosts, 'I am the First and I am the Last, besides Me there is no Elohim."  (The ISR Scriptures)

"This says YHWH the Melech of Yisrael, 1529 and His Redeemer YHWH tzevaoth; 1530 I am the first, and I am the last; and beside Me there is no Elohim. 1531"  (The Restoration Scriptures)

1529 - Father YHWH.

1530 - In Hebrew Ve goaloh YHWH tzevaot, and His Redeemer YHWH of Hosts, meaning the tool by which He Himself will save us, is also YHWH. This is another reference to the Savior, emanating from Father YHWH, without being the Father.

1531 - So that the definition of Elohim is Father YHWH + His Redeemer YHWH=YHWH-Echad. Leaving out either power leaves one with error rather than truth.

"Thus says YHWH, the King of Yisrael And his Redeemer, YHWH of hosts: I am the first and I am the last, And there is no Elohim besides Me."  (Interlinear Isaiah)

24 "Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;"  (KJV)

TRANSLATION DIFFERENCE:

"7 Thus said YHWH, the Redeemer of Yisra'ĕl, their Set-apart One, to the despised , to the loathed One of the nation, to the Servant of rulers, “Sovereigns shall see and arise, rulers also shall bow themselves, because of YHWH who is steadfast, the Set-apart One of Yisra'ĕl. And He has chosen You!”"  (The ISR Scriptures)

"This says YHWH, the Redeemer of Yisrael, their Kadosh-One, 1589 to Him whom man despises, to Him whom the nation abhors, 1590 to be the Eved over rulers, melechim shall see and arise, rulers also shall worship, because of YHWH that is faithful, and the Kadosh-One of Yisrael, and He shall choose You. 1591"  (The Restoration Scriptures)

1589 - The Set -Apart One for all 12 tribes, the Messiah Yahshua.

1591 - Father YHWH has chosen Yahshua to bring Himself worshippers, from the ends of the earth, including kings, rulers, and presidents.

"Thus says YHWH, the Redeemer of Yisrael and its Holy One, To the despised One, To the One abhorred by the nation, To the Servant of rulers, Kings will see and arise, Princes will also bow down, Because of YHWH who is faithful, the Holy One of Yisrael who has chosen You."  (Interlinear Isaiah)

TRANSLATION DIFFERENCE:

"26 “And I shall feed those who oppress you with their own flesh, and let them drink their own blood as sweet wine. All flesh shall know that I, YHWH, am your Saviour, and your Redeemer, the Elohim of Ya'aqob.”"  (The ISR Scriptures)

"26 And I will feed them that oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunk with their own dahm, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I YHWH am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Yaakov . 1617"  (The Restoration Scriptures)

1617 - Yisrael will rule over every enemy she has ever had, as YHWH brings to pass His Torah promises in the Messianic Age, when Yisrael will be the head and no longer the tail.

"I will feed your oppressors with their own flesh, And they will become drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine; And all flesh will know that I, YHWH, am your Savior And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Yaaqov."  (Interlinear Isaiah)

"For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is YHWH of hosts; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Yisrael, Who is called the El of all the earth."  (Interlinear Isaiah)

8 "In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer."  (KJV)

q - See footnote at 24:23.

"20 And the Redeemer shall come to Tzion, and to them that make teshuvah from transgression in Yaakov, says YHWH. 1842 1843"  (The Restoration Scriptures)

1842 - Messiah Yahshua comes to all Yisrael, but specifically to those willing to turn from sin in Yisrael. This test ought to be enough for people to see that being Jacob is not the key to salvation, but turning from sin through the Redeemer to become redeemed, remnant Yisrael, is the key.

1843 - Quoted in Romans 11 as applying to both houses of the olive tree, both to the cultivated and non-cultivated olive branches, or Notsrim.

"A Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Yaaqov, declares YHWH."  (Interlinear Isaiah)
