Genesis 1:14

"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:"(KJV)

Translation Difference

"And Elohim said, "Let lights come to be in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night and let them be for signs and appointed times and for days and years." (The Besorah Yahusha)

The beginning of the 4th Day of Creation

The appointed-times and years are determined by lights in the sky (Gen 1:14-15). In Lev 23 the appointed-times are defined using the elements of the calendar (the first month, counting months, counting days, and counting the cycle of the Sabbath). Thus the elements of the calendar are determined by the lights in the sky. Gen 1:14-18 repeatedly mentions lights and never mentions heat or plants. Plants that are capable of natural growth during each segment of the year in each locality of the earth are specifically determined by heat (the normal temperature range) and water. While there does need to be some light making its way through the clouds to supply energy for photosynthesis, the precise length of daylight each day hardly matters for the time of planting and reaping. The basic keys for the annual agricultural cycle are heat and water. Because Gen 1:14-18 mentions lights, and never heat or water, it is an astronomical context, not an agricultural context. Gen 1:14-18 declares that elements of astronomy defined by light, not agriculture, determine the calendar unless there is clear evidence to the contrary elsewhere in the Tanak. The emphasis on lights shows that observation rather than calculation was the basis for the biblical calendar. This implies that no calculation of the astronomical new moon (conjunction) was involved for the calendar. A complete study of I Samuel 20 shows that it was not known in advance whether a biblical month would have 29 or 30 days, so that the start of a month was not based upon calculation.

Personal Note: While I would tend to agree with the author cited above, certain plants do, in fact, base their flowering phase on the amount of light they receive. Cannabis, also known as marijuana, requires a minimum of 9 hours of daylight to survive. After the summer solstice, when the light drops below 12 hours per day, the plant will begin to develop flowers.

"Gen 1:14 mentions the lights in the heavens, and these are the sun, the moon, the stars, the planets, and comets. The cycles of the planets and comets are much too irregular in comparison to repeatable phenomena on the earth to consider in relation to a biblical calendar when considering the lights in the heavens. The stars must be excluded because during every 1000 tropical years the time of the appearance of the stars slowly shifts about 14.1 days further into the tropical year thus losing touch with the earth's seasons; this is called precession of the equinoxes in books on astronomy. Only the sun and moon remain to be considered. The moon determines the months but not which month is the first. Only the sun remains to be considered. The only repeatable time points involving the sun are the two equinoxes and the two solstices. Considering that the barley and wheat in Israel are harvested in the spring, the vernal equinox is the only logical candidate to consider that involves the lights in the heavens on the direct basis on Gen 1:14."

Genesis 1:16

16And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.(KJV)

Gen 1:16-18 mentions the rulership or dominance of the two great lights and the stars. Ps 136:7-9 shows that the two great lights are the sun and the moon. Thus Gen 1:16-18 must refer to the sun and moon, with the stars mentioned at the end.

Genesis 1:19

"19And the evening and the morning were the fourth day."(KJV)

The 4th Day of Creation

Genesis 1:23

"23And the evening and the morning were the fifth day."(KJV)

The 5th Day of Creation

Genesis 1:27

"27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."(KJV)

Who are these people?
Adam wasn't created until Genesis 2:7.

Genesis 1:29-30

"29And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."(KJV)

"30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so."(KJV)

It would seem to be that in the beginning man was a vegetarian.

Genesis 1:31

"31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day."(KJV)

The 6th Day of Creation

Genesis Chapter 2

Genesis 2:7

If this is Adam, who was created in Genesis 1:27?

Genesis 2:17

17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Adam lived to be ~900 years old. The "day" he died in was the 1,000 year day.

Genesis 2:19

"19And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof."(KJV)

Adam named every living creature on earth.

Genesis Chapter 3

The fall of man

Genesis 3:6

"6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."(KJV)

Adam was with Eve when she took off the forbidden fruit.

Genesis 3:8

"8And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden."(KJV)

YHWH has no image or form. Whose footsteps did they hear?

Genesis 3:15

"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."(KJV)

Translation Difference

"And I put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed. b He shall crush your head, and you shall crush His heel." (The ISR Scriptures)

b - First promise of the Messiah.

"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your zera and her Zera; He shall crush your head, and you shall bruise His heel. 13" (The Restoration Scriptures)

13 - The proto-evangelium, or the first proclamation of the Good News. While the Seed here is Messiah Yahshua, it also speaks of the nation of Yisrael overcoming the serpent's people.

"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel." (Hebraic Roots Bible)

"And I shall put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel." (Interlinear Genesis)

What does this mean? YHWH is saying HE will put hatred between Adam's seed and Eve's seed.

Genesis 3:21

"21Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them."(KJV)

This earliest recorded sin sacrifice.
Immediately after confronting them with their transgressions, YHWH covers them with the skin of an innocent animal - killed just for them.
At this time there are no Jews and no Hebrews.

Genesis 3:22

22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

The first reference to eternal life for a man.
Why doesn't YHWH want us to know good and evil?
What is the tree of life?

Genesis Chapter 4

Genesis 4:4

'4And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:'(KJV)

Cain and Abel knew about offerings before the Torah was given at Mount Sinai.

Genesis 4:5

'5But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.'(KJV)

Why didn't YHWH respect Cain's offering?

Genesis 4:7

'7If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.'(KJV)

What does this mean?

Genesis 4:26

"And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD."(KJV)

Translation Difference

'And to Shĕth, to him also a son was born. And he called his name Enosh. Then it was begun to call on the Name of YHWH.' d (The ISR Scriptures)

d The first record of “calling on the Name of YHWH."?

'And to Sheth, also there was born a son; and he called his name Enosh: then men began to call upon the Name of YHWH.' 20 (The Restoration Scriptures)

20 A long time before Moses in Exodus 3:15.

Why?

The first record of "calling" on the Name of YHWH.

There is a school of thought that says the word 'call' should be 'profane'.

Genesis Chapter 5

Genesis 5:18-24

The story of Enoch.

Genesis 5:23

'23And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:'(KJV)

Interesting, the same number of years as the number of days in a solar year 365.

A cartoon scroll of the names of the Patriarchs, from Adam to Noah, translated to their meaning.
An interesting perspective

Genesis 5:24

24And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.(KJV)

So Enoch didn't die in the conventional sense?

Genesis Chapter 6

Genesis 6:2

'2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.'(KJV)

What is going on here?

Genesis 6:3

'3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.'(KJV)

The lifespan of humans will be 120 years.

Genesis 6:4

"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."(KJV)

Translation Difference

'The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of Elohim came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, the men of name.' (The ISR Scriptures)

'There were Nephilim 25 in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of Elohim came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men who were of old, men of fame. 26' (The Restoration Scriptures)

25 Literally means "fallen ones."

26 To stop YHWH's eternal plan to fill the earth with one pure people.

Genesis 6:18

'18But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.'(KJV)

Genesis Chapter 7

Genesis 7:1

"1And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation."(KJV)

Noah was seen as righteous by YHWH.

Genesis 7:2

"2Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female."(KJV)

It would appear that Noah knew about clean and unclean dietary laws.
At this time there are no Jews and no Hebrews.

Genesis 7:6

"6And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth."(KJV)

Moses is 600 years old.

Genesis 7:8

"8Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,"(KJV)

It would appear that Noah knew about clean and unclean dietary laws.
At this time there are no Jews and no Hebrews.

Genesis 7:10

"10And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth."(KJV)

After seven days from what?

Genesis 7:11

"11In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened."(KJV)

600 02/17

This is the beginning of a time marker for determining the number of days in a month. The end of this marker is Genesis 8:3-4.

Genesis 7:12

"12And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights."(KJV)

40 days and 40 nights.

Genesis 7:16

"16And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in."(KJV)

The LORD shut him in?

Genesis 7:24

"24And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days."(KJV)

The waters covered the earth for 150 days.
Five months?

Genesis Chapter 8

Genesis 8:3-4

"3And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated."(KJV)

"4And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat."(KJV)

Will this be the start of the millenial reign or perhaps the day of the Messiah's return?

These two verses are the end of a time marker that began with Genesis 7:11. 150 days divided by 5 Months = 30 days per month. It would appear that, in the days of Noah, months were thirty (30) days long.

Genesis 8:13

"And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry." (KJV)

How was Noah able to determine the beginning of the year without a barley harvest?

Does this verse disprove the abib barley method for determining the beginning of the year?

Genesis 8:20

'20And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.' (KJV)

It would appear that Noah knew about animal sacrifice and clean and unclean dietary laws.
At this time there are no Jews and no Hebrews.

Genesis Chapter 9

Genesis 9:2

"2And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered." (KJV)

Why do they have to be afraid?

Genesis 9:4

"4But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat." (KJV)

What does this mean?

Genesis 9:9

"9And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;" (KJV)

God's covenent with man.

Genesis 9:25

"25And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren." (KJV)

Why? What did he do wrong?

Noah lived to be 950 years old.

Genesis 12:3

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.(KJV)

YHWH is talking to Abraham and his seed which would include his first son Ismael (through Hagar), his second son Isaac (through Sarah) and his other six (6) sons (through Keturah) Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

The Hebrew translation could be "...all families of the earth be mixed or grafted."

Genesis 12:5

...As the cities are being ravaged by rains of sulfur-and-fire, Abraham's nephew Lot escapes into the hills with his two daughters. The daughters look out upon the devastation, and presume they are the only survivors left on earth. That would make their father the only living male. So in order to propagate the human species, they initiate incestuous relations with their father. The two daughters get Lot drunk and ... nine months later, each gives birth to a baby boy. (Genesis 19:30-38)

The younger daughter named her son "Ben-Ami," which means "son of my people." She felt uncomfortable about the incest, and modestly concealed the baby's lineage.

The older daughter also felt uncomfortable about the incest, but she dealt with it in the much different way. She figured that by presenting incest as a valid alternative lifestyle, that would totally justify her behavior and she'd have nothing to feel guilty about! In other words, "I can do whatever I want ... and who are you to tell me otherwise?!"

So she brazenly named her son "Moav," which means "from my father." She made "incest" the child's name!

Jacob/Ya'aqob does the seven years of service and asks Laban/Laban for Rachel/Rahĕl.

Genesis 29:22

According to Jewish rabbis, in Genesis 29:22, Jacob vowed to give one-tenth of all his future acquisitions to the Almighty. However, I do not see this in this verse. ???

Genesis 29:22-27

'27Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.'(KJV)

>What did he mean by fulfil her week? Did he have to live with her a week to consummate the marriage?

Laban/Laban gives Leah/Lĕ'ah to Jacob/Ya'aqob because she is the oldest. Laban/Laban gives Zilpah/Zilpah to Leah/Lĕ'ah as a handmaiden. Laban/Laban tells Jacob/Ya'aqob he can have Rachel/Rahĕl if he will serve him another seven years.

Genesis 29:29

Laban/Laban gives Bilhah/Bilhah to Rachel/Rahĕl as a handmaiden.

Genesis 29:30

Jacob/Ya'aqob loved Rachel/Rahĕl more than Leah/Lĕ'ah.

Genesis Chapter 31

Genesis 31:20

"20And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled."(KJV)

Laban was a Syrian.

Genesis 31:24

"And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad."(KJV)

This verse is evidence that, "God speaks to the unbelieving. This isn't the first time we've seen Yehoveh speaking to pagans, and it won't be the last. Laban was a spiritualist. He accepted many gods. So, it was no big deal for him to accept that Jacob's God was quite real; Jacob's god was just another of a seemingly limitless number of gods. Let us never think that Yehoveh only interacts with, or speaks to, Believers. He will communicate with, and use, whomever He wishes; after all, the Scriptures even tell of a time He spoke through a donkey. At the same time, let us also not think that because God has spoken to someone, that THAT is an indication that person is a Believer. Laban loved to invoke Yehoveh's name when speaking to Jacob, but not because he revered God Almighty or bowed down to Him. He did it in hopes of influencing Jacob, or Yehoveh, for his own selfish purposes."

- Lesson 30 Chapters 31 and 32 (WWW.TORAHCLASS.COM) (2012/1201)

Genesis 31:44

"44Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee."(KJV)

Genesis 31:47

Laban and Jacob make covenant.

"47And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed."(KJV)

Laban and Jacob made covenant at a place Laban called Jegarsahadutha but Jacob called the place Galeed.
Laban gave the place an Aramaic name and Jacob gave it a Hebrew name.

3026 - Ygar Sahaduwtha' - (Aramaic) from a word derived from an unused root (meaning to gather) and a derivation of a root corresponding to 'sahed' (7717); heap of the testimony; Jegar-Sahadutha, a cairn East of the Jordan:--Jegar-Sahadutha.

1567 - Gal`ed - from 'gal' (1530) and '`ed' (5707); heap of testimony; Galed, a memorial cairn East of the Jordan:--Galeed.

"And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day."(KJV)

Genesis 32:29

'29And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.'(KJV)

Why didn't he give his name?

Genesis 32:32

'32Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.'(KJV)

The reason why Jews do not eat thigh meat. The children of Israel/Yisra'ĕl will turn anything into a tradition.

Genesis Chapter 33

Genesis 33

Jacob/Ya'aqob meets Esau/Ĕsaw after leaving Laban's/Laban's.

Genesis 33:4

4"And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept."(KJV)

I have heard teachings that Esau tried to bite Jacob at this point. I do not believe this is true. I think this is an attempt on the part of religious teaching to 'demonize' Esau. I offer Genesis 45:14 in support of my position. It is written that Joseph fell on Benjamin's neck and wept and I do not think anyone teaches that Joseph was trying to bite Benjamin.

Genesis 33:17

17And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.(KJV)

Interesting that the house was for himself and the booths were for his cattle.
Succoth/Sukkoth - booths
Is this a shadow picture of the feast of Sukkoth? Are we YAHUSHUA's cattle?

Genesis 33:18

"And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city."(KJV)

10And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?(KJV)

Why did Jacob/Ya'aqob/Israel/Yisr'ĕl mention Joseph's/Yosĕph's mother bowing down?
At this point in time, Rachel/Rahĕl is dead!

Genesis 37:11

11And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.(KJV)

This seems to indicate that Joseph's dream had prophetic significance.

Genesis 37:14

14And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.(KJV)

Shechem/Shekem is also the place where Joseph will request they bury his bones when he dies.

Genesis 37:15

Genesis 47:3

3And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.(KJV)

Why did his brothers say they were shepherds when Joseph/Yosĕph had specifically told them (Genesis 46:33-34) to say they were men of livestock?

Genesis 47:4

This most likely happened in the 3rd year of the famine.
All the money was brought into the Pharoah's house.
This is a shadow picture of today. The 'stimulus package' was given to the banks and businesses.

Genesis 47:15

15And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.(KJV)

The money failed in the land of Egypt.

17And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year.(KJV)

All the people were moved into the cites.

"But his father refused and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also becomes a people, and he also is great. And yet, his younger brother is greater than he, and his seed is to become the completeness of the nations."" (The ISR Scriptures)

"And his abba refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: 185 he also shall become a people, 186 and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than him, and his zera shall become the fullness of the gentile nations - melo ha-goyim. 187" (The Restoration Scriptures)

185 Jacob knew what he was doing in the Spirit. Do you?

186 Could this be a specific nation?

187 Melo ha-goyim, or the “fullness of the gentiles.” Efrayim's seed later collected in the ten tribes of the northern kingdom would produce the “fullness of the gentiles.” This is a marvelous revelation that most so-called gentiles are in fact Yisrael's physical children. Of course, they still need blood-atonement-salvation to become true redeemed remnant Yisrael. Paul confirms this clear understanding in Romans 11:25-26, when he speaks of the “fullness of the gentiles” as those who will come in as believing returning Yisrael in the last of the last days.

"And his father refused and said, I know, my son, I know. He also shall be a people, and he shall become great. But his younger brother shall become greater than he, and his seed shall become the fullness of the nations." (Hebrew Roots Bible)

Ephraim/Ephrayim was elevated above Manasseh/Menashsheh. Israel/Yisra'ĕl prophesied that Ephraim/Ephrayim's seed would become a multitude of nations.

Genesis 48:20

"20And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh."(KJV)

Ephraim/Ephrayim was elevated above Manasseh/Menashsheh.

Genesis 48:22

"22Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow."(KJV)

Joseph/Yosĕph was given the double portion inheritance above what his eleven (11) brothers received.

Genesis Chapter 49

Genesis 49:1-27

Jacob/Ya'aqob makes an end times prophecy to his 12 sons, the 12 tribes. Interesting to note that it doesn't look good for most of the tribes of Israel. Joseph is most definitely the one who will receive the greatest blessing.

  • Reuben - 'Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed'
  • Simeon - 'Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.'
  • Levi - 'Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.'
  • Judah - 'His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.'
  • Zebulun - 'Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he shall be for an haven of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.'
  • Issachar - 'a strong ass couching down between two burdens: And he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute.'
  • Dan - 'Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.'
  • Gad - 'Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last.'
  • Asher - 'Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties.'
  • Naphtali - 'Naphtali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words.'
  • Joseph - 'Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall: The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him: But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:) Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.'
  • Benjamin - 'Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.'

Genesis 49:1

"1And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days."(KJV)

Jacob/Ya'aqob prophesies to his sons on his death bed.

Genesis 49:4

"4Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch."(KJV)

Reuben/Re'ubĕn laid with Bilhah.

Genesis 49:6

"6O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall."(KJV)

Simeon/Shim'on and Levi/Lĕwi killed Hamor/Hamor and Shechem/Shekem for raping their sister Dinah.

Genesis 49:13

13Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he shall be for an haven of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.(KJV)

This prophecy is fulfilled in Joshua 19:10-11. Interesting to note that the last seven tribes received their inheritance by Joshua casting lots in Joshua 18:10. The allocation was by lot yet Zebulun still wound up inheriting 'land by the sea'.

Genesis 49:33

"33And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people."(KJV)

Jacob/Ya'aqob dies.
What a nice way to go.
Is the phrase, 'gathered unto his people' just a literary expression or an actual event?

Genesis Chapter 50

Genesis 50:3

3And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.
I do not understand the 40 days and its relationship to the embalming process.
I wonder if the Egypptians were the ones that started the process of embalming.
The Egyptians mourned for Joseph for 70 days.
