INTRODUCTION:

The purpose of this page is to collect Scripture evidence defining 'who is my brother'? Most religions use this concept to define a body of like minded believers to the exclusion of all others. Since we are all children of God Almighty, I want to find out if the religious definition is valid or if we are ALL brothers and sisters in the eyes of YHWH. I would also like to collect references regarding how we should treat a brother -vs- others

SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:

35"And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee." (KJV)

This verse seems to indicate that a brother can be a stranger or a sojourner.

8At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.(KJV)

The Levites were distinguised (seperated) from their brothers because of their obedience. The Levites are allowed to get closer to YHWH than any of the other tribes of Israel.

5For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever.(KJV)

The Levites were distinguised (seperated) from their brothers because of their obedience. The Levites are allowed to get closer to YHWH than any of the other tribes of Israel.

4Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders." (KJV)

So much for being able to trust your brother explicitly.

28And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days,) saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up; for to morrow I will deliver them into thine hand.(KJV)

YHWH tells Phinehas to go against his blood brother.

'6For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.' (KJV)

Even your own flesh and blood can deal treacherously with you.

46While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.(KJV)

47Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.(KJV)

48But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? (KJV)

49And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! (KJV)

50For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.(KJV)

31There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.(KJV)

32And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.(KJV)

33And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?(KJV)

34And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!(KJV)

35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.(KJV)
