Marriage References:

The virtuous woman described.

4"Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." (KJV)

Divorce References:

1'Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.' (KJV)

8"And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also." (KJV)

14"Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:" (KJV)

"Jeremiah 3 shows us that Yahweh defines divorce differently than we do in the West (circa 2011 CE). For example, in verse 8 Yahweh says He divorced Ephraim and "put her away," yet in verse 14 He says He is still married to her. Apparently Yahweh does not believe that the divorce terminated His marriage. Rather, it seems Yahweh thinks that the divorce papers only signal the fact that His wife is presently being adulterous (which she will hopefully not be forever)."

I think we need to take a deeper look at the Hebrew, especially regarding the English translation of 'ba'al', which is translated as 'am married' in verse 14. See its use in Hos 2:16 and you'll find there a clear difference in 'ba'ali' and 'ishi'. Thus, I believe the word in Jer 3:14 should have been translated Master, as to read 'I am Master, and I will take ….'. The Hebrew word in Deb 24:1-5 is also 'ish' or 'ishi' and NOT 'ba'al' or 'ba'ali'. So I believe that yet again, it's mans translations that are at work in the WRONG direction, leading us away from His Truth.

16"For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously." (KJV)

31"It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:" (KJV)

32"But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery." (KJV)

3'Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.' (KJV)
